On January 7th, I laid out my 2017 gaming resolutions. It’s been a month since then, so I figured I’d check in and see how things are going.
Publish at least 2 blog posts a week
I’ve been so-so on this. I’d claim working on my first Five By submission took my attention, but I know that’s just an excuse. During the month of January, I published a total of 14 blog posts, which on the surface seems pretty good. However, there was a full week in there when I posted nothing at all, and avoiding long stretches of silence was the point of this resolution. So far I’ve been doing a better job in February, but it’s early days so we’ll see how the rest of the month pans out.
Play games more than once
I have committed to a 10×10 challenge in order to give this goal some specific criteria. Back in December, I was playing with the Challenges option in BGStats, and so I’ve decided to run my challenge from Dec 1st, 2016 through Dec 1st, 2017 in order to use the challenge I started setting up at that point. So far I’ve selected 7 of the 10 games that I’ll be tracking, and managed 10 plays of those titles.
I’m still really tempted to purchase this 10×10 tracker from DaftConcepts that I had shared on Twitter, but so far I’ve resisted. Though Eric Buscemi posting pictures of the custom tracker he ordered from them isn’t helping me resist…
Play at least 3 unplayed games from my collection each month
For this resolution, I’m counting games where I hadn’t previously played my copy and it wasn’t obtained during the same month. In January, I played Swinging Jivecat Voodoo Lounge, Legends of Andor, Hanabi Deluxe, and Cyclades which means I actually met this challenge.
Now, if you want to be stricter on the definition of unplayed, then Swinging Jivecat Voodoo Lounge was the only one of those games where my play was both the first for my copy AND the first time that I had played the game at all.
Update BGG collection & ensure all changes are made by the end of the month
I haven’t yet tackled doing a complete update of my collection for accuracy. I did however, get all of my January collection changes updated on BGG by lunchtime on February 1st, so that part was close to being fulfilled.
